Atleta do arremesso de peso, Tuvalu não conseguiu classificação para Daegu, mas foi convidado e aceitou participar da prova dos 100m rasos. Com o físico avantajado, normal para um arremessador de peso, mas inapropriado para uma prova de corrida de curta distância, ele fez apenas 15s66 na pré-eliminatória do evento. Como o vencedor da eliminatória terminou com 10s77 e os outros não ficaram tão atrás, ele pareceu um amador no meio de profissionais.
